Exhibition Manifesto / Hysteria In Narrow Space

<<Locandina Betul Serbest

The artist who focuses on patriarchal social ideologies in her subjects, creates a stance against masculine statements by standing up for individual freedom of women in her works. In this context, the characters and figures in her works are women. Her pictures consist of self-portratits and she presents women portraits, who are isolated at home and stripped off their identity, to the audience. A dramatical loneliness is also represented in the works and composition constructs aim to show the figure to the audience from different perspectives. This situation prevents women figures, which are purified from eroticism, to be a pleasure object to be watched. The plastic works should be evaluated within the range of expressionist movement because they reflect emotions such as anger, hatred, loneliness and rebellion and inner world.
